Somatic EMDR Therapy
TOWARDS HIGHER MIND

Discovering True Happiness.
My role as a Somatic EMDR practitioner, is to rapidly, safely and effectively metabolise dysfunctional traumatic memories and deep limiting beliefs from the past and transform them into something empowering and useful.
Somatic EMDR acknowledges that the body holds traumatic memories and emotions as much as the mind. It encourages individuals to connect with their sensations, allowing the body to guide the process of healing while allowing the mind to safely and effectively desensitise and reprocess traumatic memories.
What is Somatic EMDR Therapy?
EMDR therapy is an 8 phase psychotherapy approach to address maladaptive beliefs and emotions/sensations following traumatic or impactful events.
Bilateral stimulation allows for faster and more effective processing to bring more awareness and resiliency through difficult moments in life rather than experience flashbacks of trauma emotion - keeping one stuck in the trauma sensations.
Somatic EMDR involves combining EMDR therapy and Somatic healing to tune into the body while effectively working with trauma. Similar to the traditional approach, Somatic EMDR involves using Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) to reprocess trauma - but added in is tracking the body's sensations and experiences while processing is going on. Since the body is the container of our emotions, this approach puts more of an emphasis on noticing what is happening Somatically throughout the different phases of EMDR. By helping you tune into your body, we can learn to better manage your emotions and beliefs - and work through the trauma more proactively, that has been in the past been immobilised in the cells of your body and wired into your nervous system.
THE ROLE OF THE BODY IN TRAUMA
Trauma not only impacts the mind but the body as well. Unresolved traumatic experiences may result in ongoing tension, pain, or discomfort in various parts of the body, long after the event occurred. These physical sensations may be connected with the emotional and psychological aspects of trauma, and need to be taken into account.
Somatic EMDR Therapy Can Help With:
Body Awareness
I will help you become more aware of the traumas in your history, the impact they still have on your mind and your body, and hence, the bodily sensations that are connected to these experiences. This improved awareness is the first step toward processing trauma and integrating more proactive beliefs around it.
Emotion Management Skills through Resourcing and Containment
I will help you learn and develop skills through inner resourcing, and positive integration, learning how to contain intense emotions - to manage distressing feelings so you will be more equipped to deal with them in-between sessions.
Tracking Sensations
You will be encouraged to continue to notice sensations in your body and be mindful of whats happening internally as the trauma is reprocessed. This will help you uncover the physical manifestations of trauma as well as move through the distressing feelings - allowing you to have a more authentic relationship with your body.
Bilateral Stimulation
Just like traditional EMDR, Somatic EMDR uses BLS (Bilateral Stimulation). BLS can be initiated through eye movements, tapping, or tactile sensations and is used to activate both hemispheres of the brain. Just like we have a natural process of healing physical injuries, BLS allows for the healing of emotional wounds and is often very effective to recontextualise how clients feel about impactful negative memories.
Integration
As you notice these physical sensations along with BLS, you can integrate these sensations with their emotional experiences. This integration promotes healing, release and a greater sense of acceptance regarding what happened.
The Benefits of Somatic EMDR Therapy:
Somatic EMDR Therapy has a 3 prong protocol that helps clients:
FIRSTLY
To learn from their traumatic or negative experiences in the past rather than remain traumatised by them.
SECONDLY
Look at present triggers and differentiate these from past traumatic experiences.
THIRDLY
Incorporate future templates that hold proactive beliefs for clients - rather than staying stuck in past destructive trauma mind loops.
Non Verbal Healing
Very often, trauma is pre-cognitive and well before language formation. This approach is especially helpful for those who struggle to express their trauma verbally. It provides a non-verbal path to healing, allowing individuals to work through trauma without relying on words alone. It also gives clients a sense of power as they can choose what they wish to disclose about their experiences.
Holistic Healing
By incorporating the body, Somatic EMDR addresses both the physical, emotional, and cognitive aspects of trauma. This is a holistic way of working and brings relief to the body, emotions, and thoughts.
Increased Sense of Self-Awareness
Clients often report a greater sense of self-awareness and steadiness within themselves and their experiences. This also provides more opportunity to manage feelings better, integrate and re-perceive negative experiences, and attend to their own needs in difficult moments.
Effective Healing of Complex Trauma
While the part of our brain responsible for recalling a memory is not developed until age 3, our bodies always remember. Somatic EMDR is effective for complex trauma, where multiple traumatic events have occurred over an extended period of time.
More Authentic Mind/Body Relationship
By working closely tracking the body sensations while working through trauma memory allows deeper connection between the mind and body in real time.

In a safe and non-judgmental space, I help clients fully relax and explore their deepest thoughts and emotions.
Together we'll unpack deeper issues and life challenges - explore and navigate your deeper psyche to shine light on what needs attention for rebalancing or releasing from your system for good.
SOMATIC EDMR THERAPY
Client Feedback.
I have worked with many people over the years and had varying degrees of progress. I always felt like there were still things deeper in me that still felt stuck, and I had reoccurring things that would continue to come up.
Jenn is amazing - her EDMR helped me not only shift the things that were stuck which has changed my life for the better, she was supportive, kind and so easy to talk to. I highly recommend Jenn and am forever grateful. - Judy
